The temporary driver's licence in St. Kitts and Nevis

Every Revura rider needs a St. Kitts and Nevis temporary driver’s licence before we hand over a scooter. This page explains how to get one. New to driving on the left? Read our guide to riding on the left in St. Kitts.

The temporary licence is issued on your valid licence from home and a government fee. It is issued by class, and a scooter needs Class M, the motorcycle class. Class P covers cars only. Ask for Class M when you apply, and check it is on the licence.

Who needs one

Your licence from home

Valid home licence requiredYes. You need a valid driving licence from home to get the temporary licence

Is an international driving permit enough?

We do not have a confirmed answer yet, so we will not guess. Bring your licence from home and get the temporary licence before handover.

How to apply

  • Where to go: the Inland Revenue Department on Bay Road, Basseterre (tel 869 465 8485, 8am to 3pm Monday to Friday), or an authorised rental agency. The police also run an online e-licence portal at https://eservices.police.kn/ELicense/ where you apply, pay and download it before you travel.
  • At weekends: the Inland Revenue office is closed on Saturdays and Sundays, so a weekend arrival means applying online before you travel.
  • What to bring: your valid driving licence from home and two forms of ID, one of them your passport.
  • What it costs: a government fee, paid to the issuing authority. Confirm the current fee with the Inland Revenue Department. This is not a Revura charge and Revura does not add to it.
  • How long it takes: we cannot promise a time. Getting it online before you travel keeps it out of your hours ashore, which matters most to cruise passengers.
  • How long it lasts: the period stated on the licence.

How Revura helps

Revura does not issue the licence and cannot waive the requirement. What we do is make sure it never becomes a surprise.

  • We remind you at booking that you need one
  • We tell you exactly what to bring, before you travel
  • We point you to the Inland Revenue Department on Bay Road, Basseterre, or to the police e-licence portal, so you have the licence before you collect.
  • Multi-day and hotel-delivery riders: the same rule applies. Have your temporary licence ready when we arrive. No licence, no handover.

Licence questions

Can you drive in St. Kitts with a US licence?

Your US licence is the licence from home, and you need it to apply. Revura also requires the St. Kitts and Nevis temporary driver’s licence before handover, and a scooter needs Class M, the motorcycle class.

Yes. The police run an online e-licence portal at eservices.police.kn/ELicense, where you apply, pay and download the licence before you travel. You can also get it in person at the Inland Revenue Department on Bay Road, Basseterre.

We have not been able to confirm this with the authorities. Ask the Inland Revenue Department (869 465 8485) when you apply. Revura riders may take the scooter to Nevis on the ferry.

Check the expiry date printed on it. Whether an earlier licence covers a new visit is a question for the Inland Revenue Department (869 465 8485), so ask them before you travel.

Revura will not hand over a scooter to a rider who has not met the licence requirement. Beyond that, the consequences are a matter for the authorities, not for us to characterise.
