Rider requirements
Revura rents to experienced riders only. This page sets out what that means. It also keeps two kinds of rule apart: what the law requires and what Revura requires.
To rent from Revura you need recent riding experience, a valid driving licence from home, your passport, a local temporary licence obtained before handover, and a pass on the short control check at handover. Revura’s minimum renter age is 21. The temporary driver’s licence guide covers how to get the local licence.
Which rules are law, and which are ours?
Rental companies blur these together, and the visitor is left unable to tell a legal requirement from a house policy. Revura labels every rule on this page as one of the two below.

Set by St. Kitts and Nevis law and enforced by the authorities. Neither Revura nor you can waive them.
Revura operating rules
Our own rules. Some are stricter than the law, on purpose. We apply them to every rental.

Revura operating rules
These rules are ours. They carry no legal force and we will not dress them up as law. We set them because a rider who has never seen these roads leaves little margin for a bad call.
Experienced riders only
You need real riding experience on a scooter or motorcycle, and it has to be recent:
- Minimum riding experience: 1 year
- Most recent ride: a scooter or motorcycle within the last 2 years
- You must pass the practical control check at handover
- You cannot learn to ride on our scooter
Age
- Revura minimum renter age: 21
- Maximum renter age: none
Revura sets this age. It can differ from the legal minimum age above.
Weight and passengers
- Maximum rider weight: 350 lb (159 kg)
- Combined rider and passenger weight limit: 350 lb (159 kg)
- Passengers: one, within the combined weight limit
- Passenger minimum age: 12
Documents to bring
- Your driving licence from home
- Photo identification
- Your temporary local licence, where required
- A card or cash for the US$500 security deposit
- Cruise visitors: your ship card and all-aboard time
- Cruise visitors: your ship card as well as your passport
Security deposit
US$500, taken at pickup as a card hold or cash. Cash comes back at the return inspection. A card hold is released the same day, but your bank can take 3 to 7 days to show it. The full picture sits on the scooter rental prices page and in the rental terms.
When do we refuse a rental?
We would rather say this here than at the pickup point. If any of these apply, please do not book.
We will not hand over the scooter if
- You have not ridden a scooter or motorcycle before, or not recently
- You cannot complete the practical control check
- Your licence does not cover you, or the temporary licence is missing
- You are under the minimum age, or over any applicable maximum
- You appear to have been drinking, or are unfit to ride
- The combined weight exceeds the limit
- The rider at pickup is not the rider named on the booking
- The road or weather conditions make riding unsafe
What happens if we refuse
A refused rental costs us both a day. We would rather find the problem at booking than at handover, which is why we ask the qualification questions up front.
If you are not sure whether you qualify, ask before you pay. It takes a couple of messages.
Requirement questions
I ride at home every week. Is that enough?
It is the right starting point. What is left is riding on the left, roads you do not know and a scooter you have never sat on. The control check and the route conversation at handover cover those, and the safety page goes into the road conditions.
I ride a large motorcycle. Do I still need the control check?
Yes. It takes a few minutes and it covers this particular scooter. Riders who handle a big bike every weekend still find the throttle response and the braking balance different enough to be worth the check.
Can my partner ride as a passenger?
Yes, one passenger aged 12 or over. The 350 lb (159 kg) combined weight limit applies and a passenger helmet is supplied.
Can I add a second rider to the same scooter?
Only a rider approved at booking may ride the scooter. A second rider has to be approved too, and has to meet every requirement on this page.
